Dear members,
Hong Kong Texas Exes has been providing free membership to our fellow alumni. The objective of free membership is to encourage all UT alumni in Hong Kong to join the organization so that we can have as many members as possible and that we can provide a bigger network for our alumni. The downside of this policy is that we lack the necessary financial resources to organize grander activities because of the financial risks involved. There has been a limited variety of activities as we can only choose to organize activities with low financial risks. The result is that many members do not find the activities interesting and the turnout has not been great. The low turnout rate leads to even lower turnout rate in events that follow. The result is potentially a downward spiral in attendance.
Our money is mainly contributed by members and officers attending our events and from donations of more senior alumni during some special dinners. The University is not giving us any financial support. These contributions have been used to subsidize some of the past events. Our cash balance now is only at about HKD1,300. With the cost of Internet facilities running at about $600 per year, we do not have much money to risk in our activities.
As mentioned in the AGM in March, we have decided that we would start to accept membership fee on a voluntary basis to tackle this issue. Members may choose to pay membership fees to support our network financially and help the organizing of grander events. Here is the fee schedule:
Lifetime membership -
USD100 one time payment
Annual membership -
USD15 per annum, with paid membership starting on the payment date and ending
on the same day of the following year
Donation -
One time payment of any amount of your choosing
Members who pay membership fees will receive discounts for attending our activities while their paid membership is in effect. They and other donors will also be recognized in our web site.
We would like to point out that we have recruited two more officers into our committee in the past half year and thus with more financial support from our members we will be able to organize some great events which every one can enjoy. Hong Kong Texas Exes does not obtain any funds from the University. We need the financial support from our alumni. If you think the organization is worth your support, please pay a voluntary membership fee so that we can organize grander activities that require we take more financial risks or require more financial resources. You may choose to pay us a lump sum of USD100 for lifetime membership, or USD15 a year for annual membership. If you choose to pay annual membership, you will be charged again every year until you inform us to stop the annual payment.
